As this year’s Kaizen Catalog was being printed, the US Congress had just approved the $700 billion bailout of the Wall Street and the American investment bank Lehman’s Brothers  president was being grilled in Capitol Hills for what could have started it all. Not quite good news eh? And considering that the oil crisis was still lingering, all these developments didn’t augur well for companies. However, considering that business and corporations are “eternal”, these things are just periods of system corrections.  Back in the early 1970s when Toyota was in the midst of a global recession following the “1973 oil crisis” years, its president, Eiji Toyoda did not abandon expansion plans

instead he prepared his company for the eventual economic recovery.  And when it came, Toyota was the most prepared car company to take on the renewed economic vigor.  Like Toyota, we should use this temporary setback to prepare and learn from it.
